Ski NS FIS Racers Lauren Stienburg,  Mackenzie Carr, Ian Keefe and John David Todd are striving to reach the highest level of achievement in Alpine Ski Racing.

Lauren Stienburg, John David Todd & Ian Keefe of Wentworth Ski Race Club hit two Ontario Cup FIS races in the Collingwood area. Their first race weekend took place at Devil's Glen Country Club in Slalom on Saturday, March 10th & 11th, 2018 followed by GS at Georgian Peaks Club on Monday, March 12th & 13th, 2018. On the 15th & 16th of March, 2018, all three racers will compete at Oslers Bluff for two more days of Slalom racing.

As Newbies to the FIS racing world, all three Ski NS racers had very late or last start numbers. In the Womens Slalom FIS events only 55-63% of racers finished the races. Lauren Stienburg placed a very respectable 52nd & 53rd place of 94! In the Mens Slalom FIS event  +/- 60% racers finished their races. Both Ian Keefe (48th, 57th place) and John David Todd (51st, 68th place of 121 racers) had placings in the top half of the field. This is a fantastic start to FIS racing for our Ski NS racers.

Ski Nova Scotia boasts another strong FIS racer, Mackenzie Carr of Martock Ski Race Club, who has raced the Ski Cross NorAm Cup/FIS Circuit for the past four years. Mackenzie (pictured below) recently finished 16th & 17th place at a NorAm Ski Cross race at Calabogie Peaks Resort in Ontario.

Congratulations Lauren,  Ian, John David & Mackenzie! We admire your commitment to our sport, we are proud of you, and look forward to following you on your FIS alpine racing pursuits!

The High Performance Pathway (HPP) committee recently supported our FIS racers with the purchase of Team NS FIS jackets-they look great!

The International Ski Federation or Federation International de Ski (FIS) is the top International Ski Circuit of all ski/snowboard sport disciplines.  FIS level Alpine racers are striving to reach the highest level of achievement in our sport. FIS licenses are issued separately for Alpine and Ski Cross Events. Athletes 16 years of age and older are eligible for a FIS license.

Alpine Ski Racing is a late development Sport where athletes reach excellence in their disciplines as early as their late teens and as late as their mid-thirties. FIS racers, depending upon their gender/developmental age are either in the Learn To Race, The Train To Race or the Train To Win Stages of the LTAD program.  The Long Term Athlete Development Plan (LTAD) is designed to support our Alpine racers in their individual pathways and maximize their athletic potential.
